What happened
The men, 26 and 35, were among more than 300 Uyghurs detained in Thailand in 2014 after fleeing China. Pardoned on Oct. 21, they were moved to immigration detention in Bangkok. On Wednesday they told Thailand’s human rights commission they do not want to go back, AP reports.
What each side says
Amnesty says the men have been kept from their lawyers, and points to Thailand’s deportation of 40 Uyghurs to China in February 2025. China has called the group terrorists and says its cooperation with Thailand follows the law.
What’s next
Thailand says China must file a formal extradition request and a court would decide, with the men able to defend themselves. China’s foreign ministry did not say whether it had sent one.
